Orango Parque Hotel’s commitment to tourism that leaves a positive footprint: travelling is no longer just about going somewhere.
Travelling in 2026 is no longer just about destinations, but about decisions. Decisions about how we relate to the environment, what impact we leave on the communities that welcome us, and what kind of tourism model we choose to support with our presence. In this new context, sustainable and responsible tourism is no longer a trend — it has become a necessity.
In the heart of Orango National Park, in the Bijagós Archipelago of Guinea-Bissau, Orango Parque Hotel has spent more than 16 years proving that another way of travelling is possible. A model based on respect for nature, local culture and community development, where travel becomes a conscious, authentic and transformative experience.
These are the principles that guide our way of travelling and that we invite everyone who chooses Orango to share.
We value nature and take only memories with us
The island of Orango Grande is home to one of the richest and most unique ecosystems in West Africa. Mangroves, savannahs, pristine beaches and exceptional biodiversity coexist in a delicate balance. Every plant, every shell and every grain of sand plays an essential role. That is why at Orango Parque Hotel we promote a respectful relationship with the environment: observe, admire and do not alter. The true experience is what we carry in our memory, not in our backpack.

We share the journey with our local guides
Our guides do more than accompany you: they interpret the territory, its history and its rhythms. They know the paths, the wildlife, the ocean, the tides and local traditions. When they recommend returning to the hotel at nightfall or advise against accessing certain areas or taking photographs, they do so to ensure safety and protect the environment. Listening to them is a form of respect and also an opportunity for deep learning.
We approach villages with discretion and humility
The Bijagó communities preserve an ancestral culture marked by a matrilineal tradition and an animist worldview that has protected nature for generations. When visiting the villages, we always remember that we are guests, not protagonists. We adapt to their rhythm, observe carefully and understand that respect begins with attitude.

We take photographs with respect and awareness
Photography is a powerful tool for memory, but it also implies responsibility. At Orango Parque Hotel we promote ethical photography: asking for permission before taking pictures and avoiding photographing children to protect their privacy and safety. Every image should be the result of consent and mutual respect.
We offer help in a conscious and responsible way
Responsible tourism does not act on impulse. At Orango Parque Hotel we understand that helping means listening and collaborating in a structured way. That is why we support real and sustainable projects, designed together with the local population, avoiding actions that may create dependency or imbalances within the community.

We avoid sweets and take care of local health
Small gestures can have big consequences. In a context where there is no quality healthcare system or adequate dental services, sweets can become a health problem. We choose to care through knowledge, avoiding practices that, although well-intentioned, may be harmful in the long term. If we want to give something to children, we can buy food from the women who are cooking in the village shops.
We donate only what is necessary and always hand to hand
Donations must be made in a clear, direct and responsible way. At Orango Parque Hotel, any contribution is made only when necessary and always delivered personally. Objects left in rooms are considered forgotten items and must be returned, as they can create confusion or unintended conflicts.
We take care of the park’s natural resources
Water is a limited and valuable resource. Using it in moderation, reducing plastic consumption and taking our rubbish with us from wherever we walk are essential actions to preserve this protected area. Respect for resources is a fundamental part of responsible tourism.
We support the local economy and fair trade
Buying from local artisans and small businesses contributes directly to the well-being of the community. At Orango Parque Hotel we promote fair and respectful exchanges, valuing craftsmanship and strengthening a sustainable and dignified local economy. If we want to donate medicines, clothing or school supplies, buying them locally creates a double positive impact.

We honour traditions and natural life
Travelling to Orango is also an opportunity to learn. To learn from a culture that has lived in harmony with its environment for centuries and to actively contribute to preserving its natural and cultural wealth for future generations. By sharing our admiration, curiosity and respect, we help communities value their own culture, knowledge and experience even more, increasing their self-esteem.
Travelling with purpose begins with a decision
In 2026, we invite you to choose a journey that goes beyond rest.
A journey that supports the conservation of a unique natural park, now a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, and contributes to the development of a community that has made respect for nature its way of life.
Booking with Orango Parque Hotel means being part of a social and environmental project, supporting sustainable tourism in Africa and living an authentic, transformative and conscious experience.
If you feel the time has come to travel with purpose, Orango Parque Hotel is waiting for you.
