The economic situation in Guinea Bissau is further aggravated with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country has closed completely and without development aid, its future is much more uncertain.
Two of the country’s main revenue drivers, cashew picking and tourism, have been affected by these circumstances. Hotels, restaurants, bars, all have closed and taken the necessary measures to fight against the virus. Hundreds of people have lost their jobs and the small business that women did to support their family is now endangered. The Orango Parque Hotel closed its doors in March, but understands the harsh situation families are experiencing. For this reason, it has decided to continue paying the wages of its employees while they are at home and till the end of their planned season. Our hotel wants to alleviate, as much as possible, the isolation and lack of food that is already happening in the island of Orango Grande.
